Painting in progress during open studios Julie Bovee

As you may already know, in May my art studio was open to the public for Silicon Valley Open Studios on two weekends, May 14-15 and 21-22, 2022. While having my studio open, I worked on two paintings, a different one each weekend.

Daisies on the Street acrylic painting by Julie BoveeThe first weekend, I worked on an 8″x8″ painting that I’ve named “Daisies on the Street”. I gave it that name not because I saw some daisies on a street, but because I actually did paint the daisies while sitting out on the sidewalk along the street. For a couple of hours on Saturday, May 14th, I sat out in front of the building with another artist, Tim Redd, working on art underneath a canopy. It was great fun! I already had some background on the canvas, so I painted the daisies while sitting out there. On Sunday, I added some highlights and details and finished it. It’s currently for sale in my online store here.

The second weekend, I worked on a larger painting, 24″x18″. I haven’t completely finished that painting yet, but this is an image of it’s current state. The photo at the top of the page shows it after the first day of painting on it during open studios.

I think it’s a gorgeous painting, but I feel it still needs a little something more to make it pop, so I’m waiting for an inspiration to hit. I’ll keep you updated on my Instagram account and Facebook. It also needs a name, so if you have any ideas, please let me know in the comments.
