This morning I got up early to go outside and make some flower therapy essences. I have them sitting outside in the sun right now soaking up the energy of this gorgeous day.

When I went out to take pictures of them, a Gulf Fritillary butterfly started following me around. Seriously, this fellow was right up in my face begging for a photo. How could I say no?

We get a lot of these butterflies visiting our zinnias, but usually they’re very shy about photos. This was really unusual because every time I turned around and walked over to a different set of plants, the butterfly followed me and got in my face again. I wasn’t even using a zoom lens on the camera!

I take this as a very good sign that the fairies and butterflies approve of these flower essences.

What are flower essences?

They’re water that’s been infused with the vibrational healing essence of a flower. The essence is created using a single flower, but mixtures of multiple flowers can be made from the original essences. It’s basically water preserved in brandy or glycerin. I’m using brandy.

Now, I realize that may sound downright crazy to a lot of people, but just this week I read an article in Vanity Fair online that said flower essences are going mainstream, so I can’t even claim to be cutting-edge any more. I was introduced to them by an energy healer about ten years ago. I can’t offer any concrete proof that they work, but just based on the placebo effect, I think that if I believe they work then they will work. Also, considering the research done by Masaru Emoto on the hidden messages of water, I personally think the essences work on a similar principal.

Here’s a list of the flower essences that I’m making:

Lavender Essence

Lavender is calming and soothing to the nerves and good for promoting restful sleep. I often use lavender essential oil at night in the bedroom for this purpose. I’ll add this essence to the water I drink at bedtime to enhance the effect, or whenever I’m feeling nervous or stressed out.

Agapanthus Essence

Agapanthus, or Lily of the Nile, is good for calming and healing bigger things, like the environment, global issues, and balancing the energy of the earth, by bathing the situation in love. It also helps with releasing addictions and long held limiting belief patterns and habits. I was thinking it might be really good for releasing feelings related to the big, messy presidential election that’s going on this summer and fall in the USA. Since the agapanthus is in bloom right now in our backyard, it’s an ideal time to make some essence.

Sunflower Essence

As I mentioned previously in this blog and in my newsletter, sunflowers are fantastic for boosting spirits and bringing happiness and cheerfulness into the day. They make you smile. I’ll use this essence whenever I feel like I could use a little boost in my mood or I just want to have more fun.

Painting inspired by Mural at Leif Erikson Park

I recently had the opportunity to think about what community spirit means to me and realized my experience painting a mural at a local park was the perfect example. I’ve submitted this new painting to the City of San José’s Office of Cultural Affairs’ Public Art Program as an example of community spirit and resilience.

Fresh Art Hung in San Jose

I updated the paintings I have hanging at KALEID Gallery in San Jose, California today. This was the fastest update I’ve ever done thanks to amazing help from Fernando. I’d run out of quarters for the parking meter out front, and was putting in every last dime I could dig out of my car, which gave me about 3-4 minutes per each. Pitiful hahaha. Fernando was so much help! Together, we did the whole hanging in less than an hour and I didn’t get a parking ticket. Woot!
