Rainbow Fibonacci Sunflower

Title: Rainbow Fibonacci Sunflower
Size: 12 inches x 9 inches
acrylic on 140 lb watercolor paper

Flower petals and seed heads (like the sunflower); the spiral patterns of pinecones, pineapples and cauliflower; tree branch patterns, sea shell spirals – these patterns found in nature are described by a single mathematical function – the Fibonacci sequence. This colorful rainbow sunflower glows in late summer colors and highlights the Fibonacci sequence via the tiny center flowers clustered in an interconnecting spiral pattern. Geek note: Fibonacci is often one of the first computer programs that computer scientists learn to write. I know that from personal experience.
