As I layered colors onto this canvas in late October 2019, my mother back home in Michigan was telling me about the early cold snap expected ths year, with trick-or-treating expected to be hampered by snow. Even though I’ve lived in California for many years, I remember all too well what a Michigan winter is like. Skipping winter is what I did when I moved to California. This painting expresses some of what I felt during my first winter in a Mediterranean climate zone.
